In this video, I explore Shinjuku after dark — one of the most vibrant, neon-lit and mysterious areas of Tokyo. From the narrow nostalgic lanes of Omoide Yokocho to the buzzing streets of Kabukicho, this night walk shows a completely different side of Japan.
We walk through the iconic Golden Gai, famous for its tiny themed bars packed into narrow alleyways. Then we visit the peaceful Hanazono Shrine, standing quietly in the middle of Tokyo’s chaos. I also pass through Shinjuku Ni-chome and explore the glowing lights of Kabukicho Sakura Dori Street.
Tokyo is known for discipline, order, and technology…
But Shinjuku at night? That’s a different energy.
Neon lights, hidden bars, cultural contrasts, and streets that feel like a movie set — this is the side of Japan most tourists don’t fully understand.
Is this really Japan?
Or is Tokyo living 20 years ahead of the world again?
