Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae is planning to meet other Group of Seven leaders in the hope of reaffirming that they will work together in preventing the escalation of the situation in Iran and the rest of the Middle East.
Takaichi is scheduled to hold talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Tokyo on Friday.
Arrangements are underway for French President Emmanuel Macron to visit Japan between late March and early April.
Meanwhile, Takaichi plans to make her first visit to the United States since taking office and meet with President Donald Trump in the third week of March.
At the Lower House Budget Committee on Tuesday, an opposition lawmaker said the government should give its assessment on the US military action in Iran from a legal standpoint once the situation calms down.
Takaichi replied that if she can visit the US this month, she wants to have straightforward talks on Iran with Trump. She said the government needs time to make a legal assessment.
Takaichi also aims to meet the ambassadors of Middle Eastern countries in Japan.
