Japan and South Korea remain the most sought-after spring destinations among Asian travelers, according to a new study by travel platform Klook .
Klook’s Spring Readiness Index, which surveyed 900 travelers across nine Asian markets including the Philippines, found that 78% of respondents are planning trips to Japan during the March–April period, while 52% are eyeing South Korea.
The main draw: seasonal attractions such as cherry blossoms and other time-limited natural events.
The survey also points to a growing preference for multi-destination itineraries. Citing its broader Travel Pulse research, Klook said two-thirds of travelers plan to visit multiple destinations in a single trip, using major cities as gateways to explore less-touristy areas.
Internal booking data from March to April 2025 showed increased interest among Filipino travelers in regional destinations beyond traditional hubs.
In Japan, areas such as Sennan, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Oono, and Kobe saw growth in interest. In South Korea, travelers looked beyond Seoul to provinces including Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Jeju, Gyeongju, Chungcheongnam-do, and Jeollabuk-do.
Crowding remains the top concern for spring travelers, with 47% of respondents citing long queues at popular attractions. Missing peak cherry blossom blooms ranked second at 41%.
Despite these concerns, most respondents expressed confidence about traveling during peak season. Seven in 10 said they plan to book spring activities within two months of departure, suggesting a preference for flexible planning.
“Spring Travel is always a must for Filipinos looking to escape the summer heat and to enjoy unique seasonal experiences,” said Michelle Ho, General Manager of Klook Philippines.
“What we’re seeing through this Spring Readiness Index is a renewed confidence in planning and exploring destinations around these experiences, and a more intentional approach to how they travel. Filipino travelers prioritize comfort and affordability just as much as they value meaningful and memorable experiences.”
In response to concerns about missing peak bloom periods, Klook introduced a “Bloom Back Guarantee,” which offers a 30% refund as an add-on for selected cherry blossom tours in Japan and South Korea if blossoms do not bloom during official forecasted periods.
