I just learned an amazing fact about Sapporo Station. Beneath the north exit plaza is an underground snow-melting facility (都心北融雪槽)that disposes of snow cleared from the surrounding area. It uses heat from the district heating system to melt the snow on-site, eliminating the need for truck transport since the dense station district has no space for storage. It’s fascinating that such an efficient system operates right beneath Sapporo Station!
