The 2026 Tokyo Marathon is underway on Sunday, March 1 (local time). The conditions for the race are sunny, with temperatures in the low 50s at the start.
Tadese Takele of Ethiopia repeated as the men’s champion, winning a sprint finish in 2:03:36, and Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei set a course record in the women’s race, crossing the line in 2:14:28. In the wheelchair races, Marcel Hug won the men’s division while Catherine Debrunner won the women’s.

Theo Kahler is the news editor at Runner’s World. He’s a former all-conference collegiate runner at Winthrop University, and he received his master’s degree in liberal arts studies from Wake Forest University, where he was a member of one of the top distance-running teams in the NCAA.
