Capella Kyoto will open on 22 March 2026, marking Capella Hotels and Resorts’ inaugural property in Japan.

Timed to coincide with Kyoto’s peak cherry blossom season, the 89-key luxury hotel is well positioned to serve high-end incentive groups, executive retreats and culturally driven corporate gatherings in one of Japan’s most historic districts.

Located in Miyagawa-cho, one of Kyoto’s traditional kagai (geisha districts), the hotel sits near Kenninji Temple and the Kamo River, offering a central yet discreet setting for small to mid-scale meetings and incentive programmes.

The property forms part of a three-part cultural development that includes the restored Miyagawa-cho Kaburenjo Theatre and a new community centre, reinforcing its appeal for programmes seeking a strong sense of place and heritage.

Designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates in collaboration with Brewin Design Office, Capella Kyoto draws on the spatial language of traditional machiya townhouses.

For meetings and events, the hotel offers a collection of flexible indoor venues designed for both formal and intimate gatherings. These include a ballroom decked in natural wood, as well as smaller meeting salons that open out to curated gardens, suitable for board-level meetings, strategy sessions and incentive briefings.

Accommodation ranges from Deluxe City Rooms to the 206-sqm Capella Suite, with select room categories offering views over the Kaburenjo Theatre or Kenninji Temple, while six Onsen Suites feature private hot spring baths.

Dining venues include the signature restaurant, SoNoMa by SingleThread, developed in partnership with the three-Michelin-star SingleThread in California. Additional outlets include an all-day French brasserie, a late-night kappo-style dining venue and a patisserie programme, allowing planners to curate varied culinary experiences within the property.
