A regionally inspired brand, Series by Marriott is expected to make its Japan debut in April 2026

Marriott International Inc. today announced the signing of an agreement with Blackstone, one of the world’s largest alternative asset managers and a significant investor in Japan, to convert an existing 14-story hotel in Osaka into a Series by Marriott™ hotel. Expected to mark its debut in Japan with Sugata Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi, Series by Marriott, Series by Marriott is a regionally created, globally connected, collection brand that offers locally recognized hotels in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio.

This agreement also reinforces the successful ongoing collaboration between Marriott and Blackstone in Japan, which combines outstanding global brand expertise with extensive investment capabilities to unlock value and bring innovative hospitality concepts to key destinations.

Scheduled to open in April 2026, the Sugata Hotel Osaka Shinsaibashi, Series by Marriott is expected to feature 256-room offering stays inspired by the local culture of Osaka’s vibrant Shinsaibashi district. Ideally located just 300 meters from Shinsaibashi Station, the hotel is within walking distance of Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street, Amerikamura and Dotonbori, with Namba and key cultural attractions nearby. The hotel also enjoys excellent connectivity, with convenient access to Osaka Itami International Airport and Kansai International Airport.

Series by Marriott is designed to deliver a simple and approachable experience for travellers with a focus on well-executed basics offering guests distinctive stays rooted in the character of each destination. In Osaka, the brand will come to life through thoughtfully designed guestrooms, curated social spaces and experiences that connect travellers to the city’s vibrant urban energy.

Plans also include for the hotel to feature an all-day restaurant offering locally inspired cuisine alongside international favourites, as well as a bar designed as a relaxed social hub for guests and locals alike. These venues are expected to play a central role in the property’s positioning as a welcoming gathering place in the heart of the city.
