OSAKA – Ibrahim Hassan of Djibouti won the Osaka Marathon in record time on Sunday, while 2024 champion Kiyoto Hirabayashi placed fifth as the top Japanese runner.
Hassan clocked 2 hours, 5 minutes, 20 seconds, beating last year’s winner, Yihunilign Adane of Ethiopia, by 13 seconds. Ezra Kipketer Tanui of Kenya was third on 2:05:55.
Hirabayashi logged 2:06:14, with Ichitaka Yamashita finishing four seconds later in sixth.
Mare Dibaba of Ethiopia won the women’s title in 2:21:44, with Kaede Kawamura finishing sixth on 2:25:55 as Japan’s best finisher.
