The World Food Programme (WFP) in Afghanistan has announced a $4 million contribution from the government of Japan.

In a statement issued on Sunday, February 22, the WFP said that over 12 months, 80,000 Afghans will receive life-saving food assistance.

According to the agency, 30,000 mothers and children will also benefit from critical nutrition services.

“This support will help save lives and prevent the spread of hunger,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, Japan’s embassy in Afghanistan announced the signing of a contract worth more than $2 million with the World Bank for the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund.

The embassy added that the funding will support vulnerable people, including women and children.

It is worth noting that the Japanese government has announced approximately $20 million in humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan in 2026.
