Heavy snow and strong winds disrupted transport across Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture on Feb. 19.

At New Chitose Airport in Sapporo, 135 flights were canceled as severe weather swept the region. Rail operators also halted 295 passenger trains, while more than 300 schools closed for the day.

Sapporo recorded over 17 inches of snowfall in 24 hours, compounding travel disruptions.
