Feb 24/19 Cruise News Updates Norwegian Alaska Bahamas Cayman Islands The Norwegian Joy is scheduled for drydock before she serves the Alaska cruise market this summer. She will arrive in Singapore on March 11th 2019 and exit on April 2nd 2019. This means the ship will under go a 40 day refurbishment and at about $3 million per day could mean a final cost of $120 million vs an original estimate of $50 million. We will follow this story closely. In the meantime Norwegian Cruise Lines announced their earnings for the fiscal year 2018 and the company made record profits and predicted another record year this year. It will be interesting to see if they can pull this off as they are now running at 107.6% capacity on their ships as it is. One more item from NCL was the release of the new drink package that is about to go fleet wide, the Premium Plus Beverage Package which will be priced at $155 per person per day minimum 2 people per cabin. This makes a 1 week cruise drink package go for $2170 plus your cabin fare, tips, dining, shore excursions and more. In Alaska the governor wants to end the Ocean Rangers Program which wrote up 189 violations last year against the cruise lines for water pollution issues. The program is not paid for by the state of Alaska but by the passengers. This story could get hot. Lastly, the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands have port issues to deal with. In the Bahamas, cruisers want to avoid Nassau and so cruise lines are annoiuncing new ports of call at private resorts. In the Cayman Islands, the government is intent on increasing cruise passenger visits by wanting to build a mega cruise dock in downtown Georgetown. Disney Carnival and Royal Caribbean have offered the country funding if they want to build it, but the locals may not want to proceed as they already have upwards of 2 million passengers coming ashore now and this dock could up the number to over 3 million passengers a year. Paradise maybe lost here with that kind of volume officals say. #norwegiancruiselinesnews #alaskanews #alaskaoceanrangerprogram #norwegianpremiumplusbeveragepackage #bahamasportnews #nassaubahamasnews #grandbahamaportnews #carnivalnews #disneynews #royalcaribbeannews #caymanislandsnews #caymanislandscruisenews #caymanisandsdocknews
