Bode has opened its first standalone store in Tokyo, establishing a permanent retail presence in Asia as the New York-based label continues its global expansion.
The flagship is located in Yoyogi-Uehara, a residential district known for its independent boutiques and specialty cafes. The decision to open outside the capital’s established luxury shopping corridors signals a strategic focus on community and neighbourhood culture rather than traditional high-end retail traffic.
Founded in 2016 by Emily Adams Bode Aujla, Bode has built its reputation on historically informed collections crafted from antique and vintage textiles.
According to Hypebeast, the Tokyo store was developed in partnership with Los Angeles-based studio Green River Project. The interior incorporates custom woodwork, vintage furnishings and residential-style detailing, aiming to create a lived-in atmosphere that mirrors the label’s narrative-driven approach.
The space houses Bode’s full men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collections, alongside Japan-exclusive pieces. Beyond serving as a point of sale, the company positions the store as a cultural touchpoint designed to foster deeper engagement with its local customer base.
