Even in December, Okinawa was still warm, 22°C, about 5 to 10°C warmer than Tokyo.
Day 1 is mostly a travel day, but we already found great local food and fun surprises.
In this video, we:
• Ride the Yui Rail from Naha Airport to Asahibashi, then to Makishi
• Show easy cashless travel with IC cards and contactless cards
• Walk through Kokusai dori, Naha’s famous guidebook street for souvenirs and snacks
• Explore Makishi Public Market with tropical fish, big crabs, shrimp, and shells
• Buy a great green turban shellfish and eat it after cooking upstairs
• Keep the shell to polish later, the mother of pearl layer can be beautiful
• Try a newer Okinawan sweet, salt soft serve with different salt toppings
• Taste Miyakojima soda made with local salt
• End the day with shabu shabu, a Japanese hot pot, and local Okinawan pork
This series shares our family trip one day at a time, Day 1 to Day 6.
If you are planning a winter trip to Okinawa, I hope this helps.
