Springbok star scrumhalf Grant Williams has been trending on social media following his recent visit to Japan – and whether the trip was business or pleasure remains the big question.
This is not the first time the star has been linked to the Sharks’ exit. Last year, it was reported that he was weighing up his options between France and Japan.
However, the latter seems to be the leading option and that speculation intensified after Rapport reported that Williams is set to make the move to Japan once his contract with the Sharks expires in June.
According to the Rapport, the 29-year-old is already familiarising himself with his prospective new surroundings ahead of the anticipated switch.
The newspaper reported that Williams has already informed the Sharks that he will not extend his deal in Durban and will continue his career in Japan Rugby League One later this year.
Williams has been a key figure for the Sharks since 2018, having come through the ranks at Paarl Gymnasium before developing into a regular member of the Springbok squad.
His departure would represent a significant loss for the Sharks, who have already seen Springbok centre Lukhanyo Am leave for the Mitsubishi Sagamihara Dynaboars in November.
Meanwhile, fellow Springbok and speedster Kurt-Lee Arendse is reportedly set to return to the Dynaboars from the Bulls, further strengthening the Japanese club’s South African contingent.
