Sparks of Tomorrow (JP: 二十世紀電氣目録, 20 Seiki Denki Mokuroku), Kyoto Animation’s new television anime, has announced additional cast members ahead of its July broadcast and worldwide exclusive streaming release on Netflix. Newly introduced characters and their voice actors have now been revealed.

The four newly announced characters play key roles in the story. Yosuke Mizoe, the heir to the wealthy Mizoe Trading Company that built its fortune through steam engines and who shows a strong obsession with the “Twentieth Century Electricity Catalog,” will be voiced by Kouki Uchiyama. Seiroku Sakamoto, Kihachi’s older brother who passionately pursued the invention of electricity, possessed a charismatic presence that captivated those around him, and later went off to war never to return, will be voiced by Daisuke Ono.

Kengo Kuga, a sturdy and physically powerful former soldier with strength likened to a steam locomotive and the fiancé of Inako’s older sister Noriko, will be voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi. Noriko Momokawa, Inako’s capable and dependable older sister who excels in martial arts and is Kengo’s fiancée, will be voiced by Minako Kotobuki.

The series is set in an alternative early twentieth century Kyoto where only steam engines have developed, diverging from real world history. It begins with the encounter between a boy left in despair after losing the brother with whom he dreamed of an age of electricity, and a devout girl who lives while holding both admiration and regret toward her late mother. As the secrets of the “20th Century Electrical Catalog” unfold, the characters confront past regrets and seek to reclaim their former dreams and their true selves in a story of rebirth.

■Koki Uchiyama as Yosuke Mizoe
I am Kouki Uchiyama, and I will be voicing Yosuke Mizoe. He is a character who shows many different expressions. I approached his lines in various ways, paying close attention to the intensity and range of his emotions. He carries a complex drama within him, and I hope viewers will pay attention to how that intertwines with the main storyline. Under Director Ohta’s guidance and through careful communication with the staff at each session, I was able to give my best performance. Please look forward to the broadcast and streaming of “Sparks of Tomorrow.”

I have received many cherished memories from Kyoto Animation over the years. Passion, strong conviction, and gentle feelings. I want to carry those precious emotions into the future. “Sparks of Tomorrow” is a story about creating the next era together. Please join us on this journey.

■Shunsuke Takeuchi as Kengo Kuga
I am Shunsuke Takeuchi, and I will be voicing Kengo Kuga. Many of you may be wondering what kind of story this series tells, but one thing I can confidently say is that it is thoroughly entertaining until the very end. It is a guaranteed safe watch. There are not many works that make me simply say, just watch it. As the pursuit of the future potential of electricity begins, many human dramas start to move. Kengo may look like a muscle character, but he has a solid story as well. Please look forward to it.

■Minako Kotobuki as Noriko Momokawa
Hello everyone. I am Minako Kotobuki, and I will be playing Noriko Momokawa. Her name is written with the character for rule and the character for child, and it is read Noriko. As Inako’s older sister, and at times like a mother figure, she wishes for Inako’s happiness and protects her with dignity. Personally, I am happy to be playing the older sister of Sora Amamiya. The power of the director and creative team behind this work has gone beyond stimulation and has been truly shocking to me. For me as well, this encounter feels electric. I hope all of you who watch will experience many surprises.
