Taking a Traveler to Try Takoyaki for the First Time

Max met a traveler in Tokyo and offered to buy him lunch, which led to his first-ever takoyaki experience. Until then, most of his meals had come from convenience stores, so this stop was a big step into local street food.

They tried Tokyo-style takoyaki, which tends to be crispier on the outside compared to the softer, doughier style commonly found in Osaka. Max showed him how to open the takoyaki slightly to let the steam escape and cool it down — a necessary step, as the inside can be extremely hot.

Despite the heat, the reaction was immediate. It quickly became the best thing he’d eaten all week and a reminder of how different freshly made street food can be from quick meals on the go.
