Tokyo woke up to snow this morning! The city got around 5 cm of accumulation, which is pretty unusual. They say significant snowfall in central Tokyo only happens about once every five years, so when it does, the whole city kind of stops and stares.

What makes today extra special (or chaotic, depending on how you look at it) is that it's also Election Day — the 51st House of Representatives general election. Voter turnout at 10 AM was only about 3.7%, down from last time, and the snow is probably not helping. People are literally trudging through snow to go vote.

A winter election in February is already super rare in Japan (the last time was 36 years ago in 1990), and having it land on a snowy day in Tokyo feels almost poetic.
