What’s on in Japan this spring (and beyond!), including new attractions, kawaii collabs, themed hotels, Tokyo exhibitions and lots of Pokemon!

There’s lots on in Japan this spring – the biggest headline’s the opening of Pokepark Kanto – I’ve include a quick overview of how/when to get tickets (for foreign tourists). Pokemon are also taking over observatories in Japan, and there are new themed hotel rooms with 100 Pokemon! In Kyoto, there’s a chance to visit temples and shrines that aren’t usually open to the public. The future of the Osaka Expo site’s been revealed – it’s going to be a casino called MGM Osaka. There are also some serious travel updates about flight cancellations, flu season, new regulations for Airbnb in Osaka and Kyoto, and a long holiday to watch out for in September 2026. In train news, there are new private rooms on the shinkansen and the station for Sanrio Puroland’s more kawaii than ever. Shorakuen, a cute cafe in Tokyo, is holding a special Valentine’s event, and Pizza Hut Japan has a strawberry Kitkat pizza. There are stamp rallies in Osaka and at Tokyo Disney on the monorail. In Nagoya, a giant chick (called Piyorin, a local mascot) will be there to celebrate the opening of a new shopping mall, and there’ll be an Animal Crossing event at the aquarium. The are night-time illuminations in Nara, and lots of exhibitions coming up, including ones focussing on traditional Japanese ukiyo-e art and anime.

The Japanese strawberry kitkats are my favorite! Not sure I'd like it as a pizza, though. My daughter and I will be in Japan during silver week. I knew that when I made reservations and tried to plan around those dates, somewhat, however, making shinkansen reservations early was a good reminder. How early would you recommend?
Whoooa they legalized gambling in Japan? At first I thought you meant the expo would become the worlds largest Pachino parlor, woooow.
