TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tigerair announced on Wednesday that it will reallocate capacity from its existing Taichung–Macau route to launch an Okinawa route.
Tigerair is now the only Taiwanese carrier offering direct flights to Okinawa from Taoyuan, Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, according to the airline. Last month, the airline opened inaugural flights for Kaohsiung–Kumamoto and Tainan–Kumamoto.
The Taichung–Okinawa service is scheduled to begin on March 30. Initially, it will operate two flights per week.
To celebrate the launch, Tigerair is offering a promotional one-way fare starting from NT$1,599 (US$50.67) from 10 a.m. on Thursday until 11:59 p.m. on Friday. Eligible travel dates run from March 30 through Oct. 24.
Japan Transocean Air, a subsidiary of Japan Airlines, launched its inaugural Okinawa–Taoyuan flight on Tuesday. The airline offers one round-trip per day using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, but it hopes to increase the service to two daily round-trips.
