IZUMISANO, Osaka — Japanese low-cost carrier Peach Aviation Ltd. will add six special flights to coincide with the final tour stop of popular idol group Arashi in Sapporo from March 13 to 15.
The carrier will operate the flights between Kansai International Airport in western Japan and New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido. The flights leaving New Chitose will depart late at night.
Arashi’s Sapporo concerts fall close to the later schedule of national university entrance exams, which will be on March 12. With both fans and exam-takers coming from across Japan, airfares and hotel prices in Sapporo and surrounding areas have soared, raising concerns about accommodation shortages. Peach Aviation said it decided to add the special flights to “support travelers who have difficulty securing lodging or have plans the next day, so they can make the most of their time without overnight stays.”
The Hokkaido-bound flights will depart Kansai International at 8:35 p.m. between March 13 and 15, arriving at New Chitose at 10:30 p.m. The return flights will depart from New Chitose at 2 a.m. between March 14 and 16, and arrive at Kansai International Airport at 4:25 a.m.
