Japanese cutlet restaurant debuts Jan. 29 in Los Angeles, featuring wagyu beef katsu served Kyoto-style.
Ten no Meshi, a Kyoto-born restaurant specializing in tonkatsu and gyu-katsu, will open its doors Thursday in the Sawtelle neighborhood, introducing its Japanese cutlet-focused menu to Los Angeles.
The restaurant opens on Jan. 29 at 11:30 a.m. and will operate daily from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Ten no Meshi brings a style of Japanese dining rooted in Kyoto, featuring breaded and fried pork and wagyu beef cutlets served with traditional accompaniments.
To mark the grand opening, the restaurant said it will offer a limited-edition folding fan, known as a sensu, to early guests while supplies last. The giveaway will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The restaurant playfully listed what you can expect when you dine at Ten no Meshi in a social media post, stating you can expect, “Wagyu beef katsu tradition, Interactive hot stone grilling, theatrical “yoisho!” service, Kyoto’s craftsmanship, zero compromises.”
Reservations will be accepted by phone at (310) 231-1177, though walk-in diners are also welcome. After opening day, guests will be able to join a waitlist through Yelp, according to the restaurant.
Ten no Meshi’s menu centers on tonkatsu and gyu-katsu, including wagyu beef served on a heated stone that allows diners to finish cooking the meat at the table. The Sawtelle opening marks the restaurant’s first location in Southern California.
