Toshi telling more about beautiful Japan.
For first timers with low knowledge of Japan the Kyoto Station area is a good choice to stay, Kawarmachi is second. DO NOT take your luggage on Kyoto buses. In some cases the buses will be so crowded you would not be able to anyway and drivers are allowed to refuse you with luggage. From the station to a hotel even in Kawaramachi or Gion a taxi with your luggage from the main JR station is not expensive. Kyoto is a traditional and conservative city of 1.5 million people. Learn and follow etiquette for Japan. Subways are good to get even to the general area and walk to your destination from there. It takes me about 40 minutes to walk from the JR station to Gion, so you can cover a fair amount of distances walking in Kyoto. Don't block sidewalks if you are in a group. Gion has some residential only alleys where tourists are not permitted to go, FYI.
I'd say kyoto station is the best area for accomodation. There are a LOT of hotels nearby and easy access to other places with shinkansen. There are also several shopping malls around Kyoto Station. And if you are looking for breakfast, you can try Nakau at the opposite side of Hachijo entrance. They open almost 24 hrs.
I'd recommend visiting Nidec Kyoto Tower as well. It's literally beside Kyoto Station and you can use the telescopes there for free.
I stayed opposite Kyoto Station & it was brilliant. Will stay there next trip, next year! Transport was a breeze, easy to get around 😊
Thank you for polish subtitles!
