Koreans’ love for Japan remains ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. Hotels.Com opened the data, and interest in traveling to Japan did not cool down even during the peak season when demand was high.
The most visited cities are Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Sapporo. New faces have also emerged among familiar cities. Kagoshima and Kobe showed their presence by jumping 160% and 95% respectively from the previous year.
It’s not just a short trip to Japan. Season switching trips, which fly to places where the seasons are opposite to each other to avoid the cold, are also popular. This is evidenced by a significant increase in searches in Melbourne (60%), Sydney (30%) and Dubai (85%) in the United Arab Emirates compared to the previous year. Koreans’ travel tastes have become so diverse.
Prices have also taken a turn for the peak season. During the Lunar New Year, the average daily accommodation cost (ADR) in Tokyo was about 371,000 won and Osaka was about 267,000 won. This is quite higher than the average annual hotel price (KRW 255,000 in Tokyo and KRW 199,000 in Osaka) compiled by Hotels.Com last year.

Long-distance cities with long flight times are surprisingly low in price. Flexible scheduling makes it a reasonable alternative. The cost of accommodation during the Lunar New Year holiday in London is about 344,000 won, which is cheaper than the annual average of 370,000 won. Rome also maintained a similar level to usual at about 340,000 won.
Hotels.Com has prepared a New Year’s promotion for travelers preparing for the Lunar New Year holiday. The event will run until February 2. The stay period will be fully applied until September 13, so you can take care of travel after the holiday in advance.
