Eduard (Ed) Sheremeta
White & Case has hired Eduard (Ed) Sheremeta as a partner in Tokyo to expand its real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and private capital offerings in the Asia-Pacific region.
Jun Usami, White & Case’s executive partner of theTokyo office and head of its corporate and M&A practice in the city, told Asia Business Law Journal that “Japan’s real estate market was vibrant in 2025” and saw this momentum persisting in 2026. Usami attributed this to “continued real estate and infrastructure investment activity driven by foreign investors committing to Japan by purchasing divested assets and completing transactions in hospitality, data centre, BESS (battery energy storage systems) and commercial and residential properties”.
He said these factors had sparked an uptick in inbound M&A by strategic buyers and private equity firms. To meet the growing demand for such services, Usama emphasised Sheremeta’s wealth of experience across real estate, data centres, infrastructure and private capital.
Sheremeta joined White & Case from DLA Piper, where he served as co-head of Japan real estate after three years as a partner in Hong Kong. Before that, he spent five years as a partner at Ropes & Gray and another five years at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
He focuses particularly on transactions in Japan and China, advising asset managers, private equity groups, financial institutions and data centre developers. He also advises debt and equity real estate investors on real estate transactions across APAC, including acquisitions and dispositions, and private equity and institutional investments.
