Tokyo’s Yamanote Line and the Keihin Tohoku Line were fully suspended on Friday due to a power outage.

Operator East Japan Railway, or JR East, said Friday morning that it was unclear when services on the busy commuter lines would resume.

According to JR East, the firm discovered the power outage at around 3:50 a.m., when workers were preparing for the first trains.

JR East’s Keihin Tohoku Line initially suspended operations between Shinagawa and Higashijujo stations from the first train. It reopened the section at 7:20 a.m. but the full line shut down 30 minutes later.
