OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police announced on Thursday that a male suspect being held in at the Yao Police Station was found hanged.
The defendant, aged in his 20s, he was later confirmed dead in an apparent suicide, reports Kyodo News (Jan. 14).
According to police, an officer on patrol discovered the man leaning against the bathroom door of his cell at around 10:05 pm on Wednesday.
He had hung himself with a piece of clothing affixed to the door.
The defendant was later confirmed dead at a hospital.
Police added the man had showed no signs of attempting suicide in the past.
There were other detainees in the cell at the time, but they were asleep and did not notice anything unusual.
According to police, the man was arrested on December 24, 2025 on suspicion of attempted robbery. He was subsequently indicted.
