OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have sent a deceased 70-year-old man to prosecutors over his plunge from a building Osaka City last year that resulted in his death and that of a bicyclist.
At around 11:25 a.m. on May 19, the man took his life by leaping from the 43rd floor of the apartment building in Kita Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Jan. 14).
Before he struck the pavement, he hit and killed the 59-year-old male bicyclist from Chiba Prefecture who was cycling on the sidewalk.
On Wednesday, police referred the man to prosecutors on suspicion of gross negligence resulting in death.
According to the Oyodo Police Station, the suspect had made statements to relatives hinting at suicide prior to the incident. As well, police found signs of him having climbed over the railing of the balcony of his apartment, which led them to concluded that he took his life.
The results of autopsies revealed that both men died from multiple traumatic injuries.
