Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday wrapped up a meeting rich in symbolism highlighting the two leaders’ commitment to cementing strong personal and bilateral ties.
Both Takaichi and Lee followed their predecessors in putting aside years of acrimony over historical issues, instead focusing on “future-oriented” ties and trumpeting the “strategic importance” of the neighbors’ relationship amid growing global turmoil.
From a rare joint sightseeing visit Wednesday to Horyu-ji temple in Nara — Takaichi’s home turf — to a surprise jam session on the drums following their summit talks, the two-day visit by Lee spotlighted the two leaders’ warm ties.
