Been on 2 Alaska cruise they've modified due to weather conditions – both in September – both late September; they will begin cutting the season short sooner.
We are making our way back to SF it’s been rough. They canceled Juneau on Carnival last Sunday
Yes! 26' waves. One cruise. 100 miles per hour winds in Cooks Inlet coming another cruise.. Had to outrun storm and missed 2 ports. Added in at last moment Glacier Bay. Holland America cruises. They treated us very well.
We were on the Anthem of the Seas, and the Sitka stop was cancelled on 9/16. It became a sea day and we went straight to Victoria, BC. The cruise ship was rocking very hard on 9/16.
not true I left on the 13th to 21 no such happened
Zero interest in common cruise ships, but regular passenger on ocean liner RMS Queen Mary 2. Storms are her business as she needs to get her passengers across the Atlantic in a timely manner.
We just got off Anthem on the 19th and had to skip Sitka. The waves were not so bad but then again, I don't get seasick. We spent 4 extra hours in Victoria and it was a glorious beautiful weather day.
Wow! Some crazy storms ahy! Great video and we’ve just subscribed 😊
I was on Royal Princess 13th to 20th in and out of Seattle. All our scheduled ports we hit on time. Our trip to Glacier Bay was on Wed the 17th. No problems. I learned we were the only ship to go into the bay. Weather was relatively fine with typical cloudyness. Waves were calm. The only rough day was our "sea day", the 14th, my 72nd birthday. Yes, rainy and cloudy the whole trip, except Victoria BC and Seattle. But, I had a wonderful time. Thank you, Royal Princess crew!
I was on the Discovery, and we spent an extra night in Ketchikan, missing Juneau, Glacier, and the Arm. Buoy records show the real story. Captain said we would be exposed to the raw ocean while rounding Cape Decision. We passed Cape Decision the next day, with buoy outside that passage, showing 20 feet swells. It was aslo 20 foot swells the prior day of the cancellation, our passage was slightly rough, but just that. Was it the right call to cancel? I'll defer to the Captain, but we easily went through the same conditions the next day. I went to a presentation by the Captain and "cruise director" and he stated that used used weather projections….I don't think he was using isobar charts, and doing his own assessment of the situation. he said he contacted other captains from other Carriers, who were not thinking to cancel, until he contacted them, then a whole bunch cancelled. This was a major disappointment, and a loss of 1/3 the value of the cruise. Based on other people's weather forecasts (always over warn) and group think. Had to say it, I spent many hours investigating this. Was shocked that it was almost impossible to find isobar charts. As an airman, I am an amateur level weather forecaster, we learned to read our own chart and make our own decisions 30 years ago.
Also, the video of big waves is NOT from any of the ships involved, its dramatic, but not related to the story.
Hmmmm? We we leave this upcoming Saturday, (Sept 27th), on Norwegian for seven day Alaskan. cruise. Looks like things might change.
I just got back from a royal Caribbean cruise on the Quantum of the seas from Sept 15-22. We missed our first scheduled stop in Sitka because weather and had a very rough night on the 17th. 20’ plus waves woke everyone up around 4am. Still made it to Skagway and Juneau though…
