OSAKA –
A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over an attack on a policeman with a car in Osaka Prefecture.
The Osaka Prefectural Police arrested Yasunori Kubo on Thursday, alleging that he suddenly accelerated his car toward the 31-year-old officer conducting traffic enforcement in a shopping district in the city of Kishiwada at around 5:25 p.m. Wednesday.
According to police sources, Kubo is alleged to have driven about 700 meters with the officer on his car’s hood. He shook the officer off by swerving and sudden braking, according to the police. The officer’s hand and knees were slightly injured.
Vehicle traffic was forbidden in the shopping district at the time. Kubo accelerated his car when the officer asked him to stop and tried to guide him, according to the sources.
Kubo has admitted committing the act but denied he had any intent to kill, the sources also said.
The registered owner of the car is a member of Kubo’s family. The suspect drove it without a license.
