In Manheim Township, work is underway to turn Ichiban Japanese Steak & Seafood Restaurant into Woori Korean BBQ, a Korean-style barbecue restaurant.
The restaurant at 1870 Fruitville Pike closed in August and its owners originally hoped it would have been reopened by now with the new concept. But David Shin, one of the owners of the family-run restaurant, said there were some delays and a necessary permit was only recently received.
Shin said he now hopes the new restaurant will debut by March 1.
The ongoing construction work is reconfiguring the dining room and installing new electric barbecue stations at each table, according to a building permit on the window.
Ichiban previously featured a menu of seafood, steak and sushi as well as hibachi dishes that are prepared on grills in front of customers. Shin said that one of the reasons for changing the restaurant’s concept is that it had been difficult to find chefs.
Ichiban, which originally opened in 2003, is in the same shopping center as home goods store At Home and grocery store Aldi. It was two doors down from a similar restaurant, Dragon Hibachi & Sushi Buffet.
