For anyone with even a passing familiarity with the Japanese tuning scene, the VeilSide name is synonymous with wild body kits. And even if you don’t immediately recognize the brand, chances are you’ll know some of its most famous creations – chief among them the full widebody kit for the third-generation Mazda RX-7, which enjoyed a starring role in 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and cemented VeilSide’s place in pop-culture car history.

Soon, tuning fans will have a fresh VeilSide creation to lust after. The company is preparing to unveil a new body kit developed for the Toyota GR86 at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, which runs from January 9-11. A revealing teaser image has already appeared on VeilSide’s official Instagram page, offering a tantalizing first glimpse and a clear indication of the aggressive yet sophisticated styling direction the kit will take. Of course, there are likely to be a few secrets still, as is often the case with such kits the real party is at the back.

The VeilSide Touch

The body kit follows VeilSide’s long-established habit of delivering headline-grabbing designs that amplify a car’s factory shape rather than burying it under excess. The GR86’s familiar silhouette remains intact, but it’s stretched and sharpened with broader fenders and more assertive aero detailing.

There’s also a welcome sense of flow to the design, something many widebody conversions struggle to achieve. It gives the car a cohesive, almost OEM look despite its added aggression. Notably, the rear appears to wear a subtle ducktail spoiler in place of the towering, strut-mounted wings common to the segment.

There will be multiple modified GR86 sports cars at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon, a tuning fest on par with the annual SEMA Show held in Las Vegas. We’ve already covered a widebody kit from Result Japan that turns the first generation of Toyota’s affordable sports car into something resembling the original AE86 of the 1980s – complete with pop-up headlights.

On top of this, there will also be new creations from Kuhl, which has already revealed a rugged, safari-style GR86 that is surprisingly affordable given the upgrades made, plus a separate GR86 being developed specifically for drifting.

A video posted on the company’s YouTube channel shows the car in Kuhl’s workshop and reveals a body kit packed with extensive aerodynamic elements, capped off by a huge rear wing that makes even a GT3 race car’s aero look restrained by comparison. The company is hopeful its kit, or parts of it, will be picked up by teams competing in professional drift series like Japan’s D1 Grand Prix.

Kuhl will also have on its stand a Toyota Land Cruiser fitted with serious off-road upgrades, including massive 37-inch tires and a ride height so tall that simply climbing up via the side steps could prove to be a challenge.
