UPDATE: Very delighted to report that Brendan, missing in Tokyo, has been located safely.
BEFORE: A man from Canberra has been reported missing in Tokyo, according to a public appeal shared by the Australian Missing Persons Register on Facebook.
The post states that Brendan Curtis-Cocks was last seen on Thursday 1 January at about 9.30am. He had picked up a yellow Suzuki hire car and was driving back to the LiveGrace Hotel in Shibuya to collect the friend he was travelling with, before heading north for a skiing trip.
According to the appeal, Mr Curtis-Cocks, who went to Daramalan College, contacted his friend when he was around five minutes away from the hotel, but never arrived.
The Australian Missing Persons Register post also notes that a transaction was later made on Mr Curtis-Cocks’ card at the InterContinental Hotel. The post says the person who made the transaction also had his passport, but family members are unsure whether it was him, or why he would have travelled there when he was reportedly close to his own accommodation.
The appeal describes Mr Curtis-Cocks as having visited Japan several times previously and being familiar with the city.
Those behind the appeal are asking people currently in Tokyo, particularly Australians and anyone staying near the LiveGrace Hotel or the InterContinental Hotel, to keep an eye out for both Mr Curtis-Cocks and the yellow Suzuki hire car.
Anyone with information is urged, via the post, to attend one of the police boxes located throughout Tokyo or contact the Australian Embassy in Japan on +81 3 5232 4111. The post also states that people who are unable to reach authorities can pass information on to the person who shared the appeal, who says they will forward it to the appropriate channels.
