Sakura Japanese Steak House officially opened today in Somerdale, New Jersey, on the White Horse Pike, offering a menu filled with sushi, hibachi, teppanyaki noodles, and more.

The new Sakura takes over the former 814 South Pub property, located not far from the PATCO Lindenwold Speedline.

Inside the new Sakura, guests will find a fully remodeled interior featuring an open dining room and a central sushi kitchen/prep area.

The former restaurant, 814 South, closed at the end of July ahead of the property’s sale to new ownership. About three weeks later, in August, we reported that the new owners planned to open Sakura Sushi & Hibachi at the location.

For those wondering, Sakura Japanese Steak House does not have a liquor license, which likely means the former property owner still retains ownership of the license. The good news is that Sakura Somerdale is BYOB, allowing guests to bring their own favorite adult beverages.

Sakura invites diners to experience the rich flavors of Japan right in Somerdale. The menu features artfully crafted sushi, savory teriyaki, sizzling hibachi dishes, and comforting noodle options, all made with quality ingredients. Customers can also order online for takeout or delivery.

Sakura Sushi & Hibachi Somerdale – First Look

I stopped in today to catch up with Leo, who is the owner of the new Somerdale location for Sakura. Unfortunately, I was pressed for time and wasn’t able to try the food today, but I wanted to get the news out to 42Freeway readers that there’s a new spot worth checking out in Camden County—and to give the restaurant a nice boost heading into the weekend!

The main entrance to Sakura is on the left side of the building, leading directly into the center of the dining room. The owners created a smart layout with a central “island” featuring the hostess station, cashier and sushi preparation area.

While Sakura does not offer guest-side hibachi tables, they do provide a full hibachi experience, with the hot meals cooked fresh in the kitchen and brought to your table.

Most of the dining room seating is located toward the front and right side of the building. The enclosed patio area remains available also and is enclosed for all-weather dining. Guests can choose from booths, standard tables, or high-top seating in the patio space.

The centerpiece of the dining area is the open sushi chef station, where fresh tuna, salmon, yellowtail and other ingredients are on display. The on-site sushi chefs are looking forward to serving their artisan sushi creations to the Somerdale community.

The Sakura team did a great job upgrading the building, and the gray-and-white tile on the front counter façade and back wall gives the space a clean, modern look.

The menu includes hibachi, sushi, teppanyaki noodles, teriyaki, and more.

Prices appear reasonable, with the hibachi chicken platter—served with Japanese fried rice and vegetables—priced at $14.95. Shrimp teppanyaki noodles are $11.95, and there is a wide selection of traditional rolls, sushi, sashimi, and larger sushi-based entrées.

Sakura Japanese Steak House in Somerdale is open for lunch and dinner. Be sure to check their website for the most up-to-date hours. With their focus on opening the restaurant the team has not yet launched their Facebook or Instagram pages, additional information is available on their website.
