TOKYO (TR) – Three men stole about 30 million yen in merchandise from a trading card specialty store in Toshima Ward on Wednesday, police said, reports Fuji News Network (Jan. 1).
A little after 8:30 p.m., an employee at the trading card specialty store in Higashi-Ikebukuro called police to report that cards had been stolen.
According to police, one of the three men entered the store posing as a customer and smashed the display case with what appeared to be a hammer. Employees attempted to intervene but were held back by the other two perpetrators.
Before fleeing the scene, the three men stole over a dozen cards, including Pokemon cards, worth approximately 30 million yen.
There were four customers and employees inside the store, but no one was injured, police said.

According to the store manager, it took approximately 40 seconds from the time the display case was smashed to the time they fled.
According to the manager, when they tried to call the police, two of the three men tried to stop them and obstructed them. Security camera footage shows one of the three men pushing the store manager toward the back.
“We’re glad that no employees or customers were injured, but some of the cards that were taken were worth more than 2 million yen each. We were planning to be open on New Year’s Day, so it’s frustrating that we suffered this loss,” the manager told NHK (Jan. 1).
Tokyo police are seeking the whereabouts of the three men. The case is being treated as robbery.
