Surviving 22 Hours on Japan’s Newest Ferry 🛳️ Hokkaido → Kyoto 🇯🇵

In this video, I boarded the newly launched New Nihonkai Ferry “Keyaki” in November 2025, traveling from Otaru in Hokkaido to Maizuru in Kyoto on a 22-hour journey across the winter Sea of Japan.
The ship rocked so much it was the roughest ride I’ve ever had lol

They said delays were possible due to winter weather patterns. In reality, we departed at 0:30 and arrived at 22:50, so we ended up leaving an hour late and arriving 35 minutes behind schedule.
After arriving in Kyoto Maizuru, I couldn’t catch a bus, so I stayed at a hotel.

  1. Merry Christmas, everyone!🎄🤶 (I posted a video of me getting seasick on Christmas lol 😏)
    聖誕快樂,各位!🎄🤶(我上傳了聖誕節暈船的影片哈哈 😏)
    みなさん、良いクリスマスを!🎄🤶(クリスマスに船酔いの動画をアップしちゃった笑😏)

  2. The title sadly suggests (for you), that the ferry trip was not that pleasant 😞. Myself, i get seasick so quickly (the ship rocks just minimally, and I start to get seasick, and no medicine can make that better), that I will never take a ferry in Japan. But I would love too, and therefore I love those kind of videos.

  3. Merry Christmas, friend. Im sorry you had such a rough time. I hope you felt better when you were able to get off the ferry.

Thank you for taking us with you!

Sending hugs and best wishes in the New Year!!

  4. Merry Christmas to my friend Taiyaki and all my fellow followers! What a great Christmas gift here. May you all have a healthy hand happy 2026, full of fun videos here to enjoy ❤

  5. Taiyaki Japan Travel vlog….What a shame my friend seasickness is most unpleasant it probably spoilt your trip .It may be a good idea to always have seasickness pills with you in case you need them. ! Thanks for the video ❤

  6. Oh poor thing, you had a really rough journey, but you did a great job:) You deserve a subscription. Thanks for the video and take care

  7. You brave hero, the things you put yourself trough for our entertainment and education! Wow, Hokkaido looks so beautiful in the snow…And so cold! Cheers from Belgium, we got long tailed tits too, but they are a different subspecies and not as cute as the Hokkaido ones. Merry Christmas and a happy setsubun!

  8. Lovely ship, nice video despite the visible swaying (it does set the stage!) and I’m a little surprised they didn’t have medicine for adults, particularly during the winter.

  9. Great you`ve survive such a sea trip with this bad, bad ferry⛴. wow but remember next time take a sailboat -much better will be, a lot of fresh air⛵

  10. one thing that annoys me about japanese food is the plain rice… i need sauce for rice xD Well im german so i need a sauce on everything…
Oh also salute to the japanese navy, thanks for your service

  11. The people of Japan are so used to everything running on time. The people of America are very surprised if they don’t get delayed or miss a flight or have a problem every time you travel.

  12. You got seasick and you still were able to enjoy it!!! That takes strength 😊 Happy Holidays!!! Almost 2026 🎉 Hope you get to travel to alot of different places ❤❤❤

  13. I’m glad I stumbled on this video. New subscriber. I’ve been to Hokkaido a few times to visit friends. This brought back memories of Otaru. 🙏
I like your videos. Informative but also humorous. 🤭. Thanks from Manchester, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. 🙏🙏😊

  14. Am planning to visit hokkaido via sea. From oarai so is it safe ? What probelms will i face cruising to hokkaido?

  15. So let me ask you this…is Hokkaido cold? 😀Seriously, thank you for braving the low temperatures and choppy waters to bring us this video. I'm not surprised the children's seasickness tablets didn't help much. As a gaijin, Japanese OTC medicines even intended for adults haven't been much help.

  16. Rooms look too narrow for me. I could survive but think I would like a wider bed. The chicken dinner looked OK.
