An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 struck off the coast of Amami-Oshima Island in Japan’s southwestern Kagoshima Prefecture on Tuesday, according to the country’s weather agency.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake occurred at 5:12 p.m. local time at a very shallow depth off the coast of Amami-Oshima Island, News.Az reports, citing Kyodo.
Seismic intensity measuring 4 on Japan’s seven-level scale was recorded in Tokunoshima Town, Amagi Town, and Isen Town in Kagoshima Prefecture.
The agency said the epicenter was located at a latitude of 27.8 degrees north and a longitude of 128.6 degrees east.
No tsunami advisory was issued following the earthquake.
