A wolf that escaped inside the Tama Zoological Park in Hino, western Tokyo, on Sunday morning was captured within the zoo grounds in the afternoon, according to the zoo.

A zookeeper reported the incident to the park at around 10 a.m. and there were no reports of injuries, NHK reported. After confirming that the wolf stayed inside the park, zoo workers captured the animal at around 2:20 p.m., it said.

The zoo had urged visitors already inside the park to remain in safe locations, such as inside buildings, and suspended admissions for the day.

A 54-year-old man from Tokyo’s Higashiyamato who was visiting the park told NHK that he went into a building near the zoo entrance after hearing about the wolf’s escape.

“As I saw police cars, I asked a zookeeper what was going on,” he was quoted as saying. “I wonder how it escaped.”
