HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have arrested an elderly man over the alleged assault of woman at a temple in Hakodate City earlier this month, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 24).

On December 7, Hiroshi Ogawa, 78, allegedly broke into the temple and struck a female office worker in the head multiple times with what appeared to be a wooden sword about 1 meter in length.

The woman suffered unspecified injuries, police said.

Police did not reveal whether Ogawa admits to allegations of robbery and assault upon his arrest on Tuesday.

Ogawa is also suspected of rummaging through the temple with the intent of stealing money and valuables.

Police identified Ogawa through an examination of security camera footage and other sources.
