OSAKA (TR) – During the trial of six Osaka Prefectural Police investigators indicted for assaulting a male subject of an investigation, it has been revealed that footage from a police camera was temporarily erased, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Dec. 24).

According to the indictment and other documents, defendant Yusuke Sakaguchi, a 33-year-old sergeant, and five other investigators assaulted a male subject of an investigation during a search in July.

The incident took place in a unit of a building believed to be a base of Natural, which is Japan’s largest scouting group for introducing women to adult entertainment (fuzoku) establishments.

At the trial on Tuesday, the defense pointed out that an investigation report stated that footage from a police investigative camera secretly installed by the police was deleted after the search and then restored.

When asked who deleted the footage, Sakaguchi replied, “Someone working at the investigation headquarters.”

Regarding the circumstances surrounding the deletion of the footage, the Osaka Prefectural Police stated, “We will refrain from answering as the trial is ongoing.”
