20th December 2025 – (Kyoto) An express train collided with a car at a level crossing in Seika, Kyoto Prefecture, on Saturday, according to police and fire authorities, who said they are still verifying whether there are any casualties.
The crash occurred at around 11am local time when the car was traversing the crossing and was struck by the train, local officials said. The vehicle caught fire on impact, with flames spreading to part of the train.
The blaze was contained roughly 50 minutes later, authorities added.
Around 100 passengers were on board at the time. No passenger injuries have been reported, and all were safely evacuated. Rescue crews continue to work at the scene to assist those in the car, while the scale of any injuries or fatalities remains under investigation.
