The Yokohama Illumination, one of Japan’s top three night views

Hello, this is Ichiro 😊 Today, let’s take a walk around Yokohama’s “Yorunoyo” night, where the illuminations are beautiful. Tuesday, December 16, 2025 Yokohama Chinatown, Chaoyangmon Gate Today, I plan to take a walk along the waterfront from Yamashita Park to Minato Mirai, but I couldn’t avoid stopping by Chinatown! 😊 Chinatown has lots of affordable and delicious restaurants. ✌️ I had an early dinner in Chinatown first. For me, “going to Yokohama” probably equates to “eating in Chinatown.” Now, let’s take a nonstop walk to Chinatown’s famous landmark, the Guandi Temple! I hope you’ll feel like you’re actually taking a stroll. The concept of my channel is to make you feel like you’re strolling around tourist attractions. The reason I created this channel was to allow elderly foreigners who can no longer visit Japan to see our beautiful country. But I’m also really happy to hear from young people that my videos were helpful in planning their trips. 😊 Dragon lantern 😊 A dragon’s hind legs and tail. I’ll continue to share videos of real tourist spots with realistic footage and sounds. I try to avoid editing as much as possible, but if the videos are too long, I edit them. Since this walk video ended up being quite long, I’ll share the second half, including the Yokohama Landmark Tower Observatory and the Yokohama Night View Cruise, in the next video. What?! A micro pig? 🤔 It’s a pet micro pig. 😮 They’re about the same price as dogs and cats. Their lifespan is also similar, apparently between 10 and 15 years. In front of you is the entertainment venue, Yokohama Daisekai. Kaihotei(會芳亭) There’s one thing to keep in mind when strolling around Yokohama at night. Yokohama’s illuminations end at 9 PM. In Tokyo, they’re open until 10 PM, and in some places as late as 11 PM. The last admission to the Yokohama Landmark Tower Observatory is at 8:30 PM. 😱 Last year, I took a walk around Yokohama at night, but missed the last admission. 😅 Last year, I took the Sea Bus from near Yokohama Station to Yamashita Park and enjoyed the night view from the sea. If you’re interested in The Sea Bass, please check out the video! 🙏 Peking duck 😮 Yokohama Guandi Temple Guan Yu, the hero of the “Romance of the Three Kingdoms,” is enshrined here. A five-minute walk from Yokohama Guandi Temple is the “Garden of Light” at Hotel New Grand. Across the street is Yamashita Park. I’m timing my walk through Yamashita Park so that it starts at 5 PM, during the blue moment. ✌️ Today, I’m checking my watch a lot. 😊 Let’s start our walk from the edge of Yamashita Park. Actually, I was thinking of going up to the Marine Tower as well, but today I decided to watch “Yorunoyo” from the Landmark Tower, which is three times taller and costs the same. ✌️ “Yorunoyo” means “Yokohama at Night” in Japanese, and is one of Japan’s largest urban illumination events, held in Yokohama. This year marks the sixth time the event has been held. “Winter Wonder Park Yokohama 2025-2026” The skating rink is made of resin. The Park Train costs 500 yen per ride. The Park Train passes through a tunnel of light. ✌️ Let’s go through the tunnel of light first. 😊 “The next train departs at 5:40.” Minato Mirai is in sight. 😊 You can also see the Landmark Tower (the tallest building)! The “Yorunoyo” show “Highlights of Yokohama” has begun. “Highlights of Yokohama” is a spectacular five-minute show featuring lights and music that connects the entire city, stretching over 3km from Minato Mirai to Yamashita Park. This is the main event of “Yorunoyo,” and it starts every 30 minutes from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This year marks the sixth annual event, with a record-high 46 participating businesses. I could hear a bit of the music from “Highlights of Yokohama” 😊 Minato Mirai is beautiful during the Blue Moment 😃 The Hikawa Maru is also participating in “Yorunoyo,” so the illuminations flash along to the music. The Hotel New Grand’s courtyard illuminations were beautiful. The “Guardian of Water,” donated by the American port city of San Diego. A small, glowing whale lets you know that this is the viewing point for “Highlights of Yokohama.” ✌️ “Bright Garden,” one of the main venues for “Yorunoyo.” Apparently, this is one of Japan’s largest interactive digital art installations, stretching over 250 meters in length. The name of the 18 objects is “Star Tree.” The blue rays of light reaching into the sky may be communicating with aliens. 😊 In fact, Yokohama also suffered devastating damage in the Great Kanto Earthquake. Yamashita Park was built on land that had been used as a rubble disposal site after the earthquake. This Indian water tower was donated by the Indian community affected by the earthquake. The mosaic tiles are beautiful 😊 Now, leaving Yamashita Park, one of the main venues for “Yorunoyo,” we’ll walk nonstop to the other main venue, Osanbashi Pier. Let’s watch “Highlights of Yokohama,” which starts at 5:30 PM, from Osanbashi Pier! At Osanbashi Pier, you can see one of Japan’s largest projection mapping displays, and get a closer look at “Highlights of Yokohama” ✌️ From here, it’s about a 15-minute walk. Communication with aliens has begun! 😊 A pilot boat, used to safely guide large ships, is moored here. Let’s walk along this promenade to Osanbashi Pier. This promenade continues for about 500 meters, near the Red Brick Warehouse. The promenade’s official name is the Yamashita Rinko Line Promenade. The promenade was created by reusing an abandoned railway line. Until about 40 years ago, trains actually ran here. 😊 Yokohama has several promenades built on abandoned railway lines. ✌️ Minato Mirai is coming into view. 😊 Today, I’m walking to Grand Mall Park in Minato Mirai. (Next video) And finally, we’ll take a night view cruise to see the “Highlights of Yokohama” from the sea ✌️ (Next video) We’ll get off here and head to Osanbashi Pier. Yokohama Water Police Station Currently, the only other water police stations besides Yokohama are Osaka and Kobe. We still have a little time before 5:30 PM, so let’s take a walk along the Elephant’s Trunk Breakwater. This is the perfect place to see the Minato Mirai night view✌️ The curves reminiscent of an elephant’s trunk are beautiful😊 The Queen and King of Yokohama’s Three Towers (the red-lit Yokohama Customs Building is the Queen, and the blue-lit Kanagawa Prefectural Office Building is the King) You can see the Hikawa Maru directly ahead. It’s not “Highlights of Yokohama” time, so the lights aren’t flashing. Osanbashi Pier is in sight directly ahead! Its official name is the Yokohama Port Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal. When viewed from the water, Osanbashi Pier looks like a giant whale floating in the sea. Watch the “Glowing Whale” projection mapping at the location that corresponds to the whale’s back ✌️ You can see a Christmas tree inside the building. “The Yorunoyo Osanbashi Pier Projection Mapping is 150 meters straight ahead.” Yokohama City has been ranked second among Japan’s New Top Three Cities for Night Views. Kitakyushu City took first place, and Nagasaki City came in third. Japan’s most popular Christmas market is currently being held at the Red Brick Warehouse in the foreground. You can see a 12-meter-tall Christmas tree made from a real fir tree. 😊 It seems YouTube filming isn’t allowed inside the Red Brick Warehouse Christmas Market, so please watch carefully from here. 🙏 Sorry for the small, far-away footage. 🙏 The floor of Osanbashi Pier is finished with a wooden deck, reminiscent of a ship’s deck. There are already a lot of people there, but I always watch the projection mapping from there.✌️ You can’t take the shortest route, you have to go through the end of the deck. You can see the Yokohama Bay Bridge. As planned, we arrived just before 5:30 PM.✌️ After a short wait, a glowing whale appeared.😊 And soon, the “Highlights of Yokohama” show will begin at 5:30 PM! To the right of the front, in the middle of the King and Queen, you can see the Jack (Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall) illuminated in red. 😃 The three towers of Yokohama have survived wars and other hardships and have continued to stand. It is said that sailors once prayed for safe voyages and used them as landmarks when entering port. And now, it’s said that if you see the Yokohama Three Towers at three locations (Red Brick Warehouse, Osanbashi Pier, and Japan Boulevard), your wish will come true.✌️ The countdown for “Highlights of Yokohama” has begun. Enjoy a 5-minute spectacle in one of Japan’s new top three night view cities, one of the largest in the country! 46 facilities are participating in the project. Let’s move closer to the projection mapping. “Highlights of Yokohama” has ended. Almost there, the Red Brick Warehouse. Can you see the rails under your feet? Trains used to run on this bridge, too. This skating rink is made of real ice. Yokohama isn’t a cold region, so apparently they use cooling pipes to make the ice. This is the entrance to Japan’s most popular Christmas market. The venue is packed with people! 😱 This is the priority entry and re-entry gate. The Red Brick Warehouse was built about 110 years ago as a bonded warehouse, but in the past 20 years or so it has become popular as a stylish commercial facility. This is the regular entrance gate. Admission is 500 yen. It’ll probably take an hour to get in. 😱 You can only see a small part of the Christmas tree from the outside. 😅 This is the free area, Christmas Village. “Pokémon Happy Holidays” Pokémon and Yokohama City have had a long-standing partnership. Santa Pikachu 😊 It’s designed to look like Pokémon are generating electricity and making the tree glow ✌️ A new Christmas market has opened this year near the Red Brick Warehouse. Christmas Gate The Christmas market is said to have a forest theme. Rather than waiting an hour at the main venue at the Red Brick Warehouse, I think this is enough. 😊 The name of this venue is Christmas Gate. It’s said to enhance the excitement of the journey to the main venue and the lingering feeling of basking in the afterglow after visiting the main venue. Christmas Gate This video ends at Canal Park, just beyond World Porters. In the next video, we’ll continue with a look at the Grand Mall Christmas Market, the Yokohama Landmark Tower Observatory, and the Yokohama Night View Cruise. Canal Park The urban ropeway “YOKOHAMA AIR CABIN” connects Canal Park to Sakuragicho Station, a distance of approximately 630 meters, in approximately 5 minutes. This concludes this video. Thank you for watching until the end. The next video starts at Canal Park. A preview of the next video!😊

  2. Watching this was a series of delights, one after the other. Thank you for bringing Yokohama to us in the winter. But what time did you get back home?

  3. Hello, Ichiro! High quality video as usual, with interesting and useful information, in the subtitles. Yokohama has a different vibe than other big cites. How would you describe the city in your own words? Thanks again for keeping up your performance! 😃💪🏻
