21 Hours on Japan’s Ferry with Capsule Rooms 🚢 Fukui to Hokkaido🇯🇵

This video is… Hello everyone👋 It’s Taiyaki🐟 How are you doing? Where do you think I am right now? Hint: It’s a city with dinosaurs in the streets lol The answer is Fukui Station. There’s a Toyoko Inn right in front of the station. This hotel chain really is everywhere, lol. Actually, I’ve never stayed there before, so I’ll review it if I do! First things first, let’s eat. I came to Hachiban Ramen, a local chain from the Hokuriku region, near the station. The store name’s “8” is designed into the sign lol This time I ordered the Vegetable Miso Ramen for ¥760 There’s an 8 here too For the low price, it has a lot of toppings. The noodles are medium-thick and slightly curly. The flavor is pretty standard, tasty enough to appeal to most people. Next time I want to try the salt flavor. The reason I’m in Fukui at all is because I’m taking a ferry later today. There’s a bus from Tsuruga Station to the port, so I’m heading there now. This is my first time at Tsuruga Port, so I’m a little nervous lol By the way, since the Hokuriku Shinkansen was extended to run between Kanazawa and Tsuruga in spring 2024, Tsuruga Station now has a Shinkansen platform. This means you can now get to Tokyo in about 3 hours. The bus stop is at the west exit of Tsuruga Station. I’d passed through Tsuruga Station before, but this is my first time getting off here. The area in front of the station There’s another Toyoko Inn. Seriously, they’re everywhere lol There’s also a Hotel Route Inn nearby. This bus departs from platform 6. It leaves at 10 PM. If I miss this one, I’m done for. There’s only one convenience store in front of the station. At this hour, no shops are open at all, so if you need anything, you should buy it beforehand. There’s nothing to do, so it’s better not to arrive too early. I’m so bored I’m thinking about talking to this person. Shopping complete. It’s cold and I’ve got nothing to do… then I spotted a Starbucks. Looks like this Starbucks closes at 10 PM. If I arrive too early, it’d be nice to rest here. There are restaurants in the plaza in front of the station, but they’re already closed at this hour. I came back inside the station. Who knew there was a place like this! Sitting here is warm and free. There’s a convenience store too, but it’s already closed. In the meantime, the bus to the ferry terminal arrived. Cash only, 350 yen. No restroom. It takes about 10 minutes from the station to arrive. This is the Tsuruga Port Ferry Terminal. This is what it looks like inside. This time I’m boarding with QR code tickets, so no need for counter procedures. Ferry model. The dogs look like they’re having fun lol. The ferry this time is the “Suzuran” Store Pedestrian boarding starts at 23:15 Waiting area Checked in, and now boarding! This is my first ferry on the Sea of Japan side, so I’m excited The ship interior looks like this. It’s nice First, I’ll head to my room. This time, I booked a Tourist A room for 12,000 yen. This is my room for tonight. It feels just like a capsule hotel room. !!! The room next door has a low ceiling, but mine has a high one. Way too lucky lol🤭 Bed Storage shelf It’s big enough to fit a backpack The pillow has different materials on each side Sheets The comforter is a bit thin The mattress is firm with good cushioning—I like it Shelf One hook on the upper part One storage hole. It’s quite deep. I was wondering if there was an outlet, but it was here. They’re announcing rough seas are expected today 😢 The ferry I took last time was also during a typhoon. My luck’s been bad lately lol Convenience store Original goods They also have Gosenin stamps and amenities I’ve been collecting lately Snacks Hokkaido bird, Long-tailed Tit goods This bird is just too cute! They sell snacks, cup noodles, and drinks at prices similar to convenience stores. Forgot to bring a towel, so I bought one (¥300). This is the restaurant. It’s not open right now. You can exit outside by passing beside this restaurant View of Tsuruga Port Departure time The start of our 21-hour journey to Hokkaido begins now The stairs are closed now, so we can’t go downstairs Maybe the lower deck will open when it’s noon? We just departed, but it’s already rocking quite a bit 🫨 This ship also has a large public bath. Operating hours. Photography inside is prohibited, so I’m referencing images from the official website. I was surprised to find a sauna and an open-air bath too. It’s wonderful! Strawberry milk after a bath lol For some reason I suddenly crave strawberry milk 🤭 Can you hear it? So many parts are making noise from the rocking vibrations. Hope I can sleep safely 🙏 By the way, the ceiling is high, so it doesn’t feel cramped. Since there are no other guests, leaving the curtains open makes it feel even more open. You can hear the sound of ship pretty clearly. Well then, good night 😴 The next morning Good morning ☀️ My feet are saying good morning too This comforter was a bit thin and cold The ship rocked quite a bit last night. Today’s socks: Myaku Myaku Breakfast bought at the convenience store at Tsuruga Station: Onigiri and French toast No internet connection, but the TV is on. Fukui plum rice ball French toast A strange combination of Fukui and France, but both were delicious This year’s postseason is interesting Alright, let’s take a tour of the ship! First, we’re currently on the 4th floor where we boarded. This is the shop we saw yesterday. Kids’ Room Cup Noodle Corner 300 yen Hot water dispenser There doesn’t seem to be a water server, so this water dispenser is the only place to get free drinking water. Paper cups cost extra, so you might want to bring your own cup or buy your own water. Ice cream and drink vending machines Not really expensive. About the same as on the land side. Coin lockers These lockers are free since coins are returned after use This is the smoking room. It’s quite spacious. The toilets have washlet . Washroom area Laundry room Dryer: 200 yen/30 minutes, Washer: 300 yen per load, Detergent: 100 yen Up to the 5th floor There’s a cafe here. Light meals are sold here. This area has plenty of seating. Restaurant. Payment accepted in cash or by card. This is the exit. The entrance is located in the back. Beyond this point, there is an exit to the outside. The sea is calm right now. Below is the pet park. Last night, I thought I could go down once it got light… But today the gate is closed again, so I can’t go down. Light is leaking through the gaps in the clouds, it’s beautiful. I can see a bit of land, but the internet won’t connect It feels kind of sacred. What is this place? Turns out it’s a karaoke room. 1000 yen per hour~ Massage corner and PC corner There are desks and outlets, so it’s easy to work on your PC Massage chair This is a high-end restaurant Offers course menus (reservation required) On the opposite side of the ship is an elegant room where eating and drinking are prohibited This area is at the very back of the ship, so I hadn’t noticed it at all Up another floor. This is the top floor The large bath is also located here. Beyond this point are the suite rooms. This is the movie theater on the 6th floor. At that time, two films were being shown. Dr. Dolittle Sports Room There are treadmills and a ping pong table in the back. Rackets etc. can be rented for 1000 yen. Running on the sea That wraps up the ship tour. Right then, we passed this ship’s sister ship. 👋😘👋 It was my first time seeing another ship sailing nearby at sea, and it made me incredibly happy. They were heading in the opposite direction from us, toward Tsuruga in Fukui. Stay safe! This ship has Starlink Wi-Fi, and it seems you can connect to the internet 24 hours a day for 1500 yen. It doesn’t seem to work everywhere on the ship, and I didn’t use it, but it might be good for some people. There’s no free Wi-Fi, so I gave up and watched TV. Honestly, you should bring a book or something. I’ll have my last meal on board at the restaurant. They had items exclusive to the Fukui route, so I chose one of those. Fukui Specialty Sauce Katsu Don 1400 yen The meat has a nice thickness, and the rich, sweet-and- spicy sauce pairs perfectly with the rice. The miso soup is delicious! The portion isn’t huge, but the taste was great and I was satisfied! Payment: Cards are accepted, but if the signal is bad, cash only, so be careful. ★★★★☆ Time for video editing My snack companion: Wasabi Beef Chips Oh, I also bought a Gosenin stamp. This one has the captain’s signature. They’re different for each ship, huh? 😳 By the way, we’ll be passing over the Hokkaido Shinkansen soon. It feels strange knowing the bullet train is running right beneath me. These wasabi beef chips are way too good. Land is coming into view. Time to disembark soon. Just noticed, but it seems this room had free Wi-Fi too. I tried it, and depending on where you are, it might connect. But I don’t think you should get your hopes up too much. We’re arriving at Tomakomai East Port. By the way, note that Tomakomai also has another port called Tomakomai West Port. This was my first time on the Sea of Japan route, and it was quite rough. I knew the Sea of Japan side is rougher than the Pacific side, but I can’t say how bad this particular one was. Still, I’d like to try another ferry on the Sea of Japan side sometime. From here, I’ll take a bus to the station… Is that my bus? I’ll go check. It’s the right one. I’ll take this bus to the station. Cash or PayPay. The fare is 1320 yen. This bus requires a reservation. You can probably book on the ferry too, but I recommend reserving online in advance. This bus shakes like crazy Rocked by the sea, then rocked on land too 😂 We arrived at JR Minami-Chitose Station in about 45 minutes. That’s all for this video.

  1. Loved it ❤ Wonderful to see another video from you 😊 I fear that I would've gotten seasick and bus sick lol. You must have a strong stomach 😅

  2. 看著您這個旅遊影片的內容,讓人想購買機票過去搭乘這個渡輪來感受這個樂趣,加油!

  3. Hi my friend.❤ Thank you for the video! The room did look comfortable. Although, i think i would borrow an extra blanket off the empty bed. Of course, making sure no one is using it. The sea and bus did look a little rough. I'm glad you survived.

Great video, as always. I'm excited for the next one. ❤🎉

  4. The World Series was awesome this year – two great teams, and an amazing pitching performance by The Battleship, Yamamoto-san.

  5. Just back from my Japan and Taiwan trip. I missed several of your videos. I am going to catch up.

  6. I forgot to tell you my experience of riding the night bus from Yocohama to Kyoto with the VIP Liners——it was horrible. It was a 3 seat per row bus. I could not stretch my legs! Both my husband and I are small in built. I will never do it again 😂😂😂

  7. I look forward to spend 3 nights in Fukui next March, to see the dinousaur museum, some temples and maybe Ichijodani. If you have been there, can you recommend it ?

Thank you for sharing your ferry trip with us. I was hoping that you eat at the restaurant, because I am always curious about food. It looked really tasty.

P.S. The stamp with the signature of the captain is a great souvenir

  8. Thank you for filming! I would love to see a video about budget hotels near train stations or ferry ports <3
