Although we put forward an ambitious proposal for the second call for applications for designation as a University for International Research Excellence, it is with great regret that we report that the University of Osaka was not selected as a candidate.

However, getting to the final round is a testament to the strength of our entire university community. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone at the university, as well as our external consultants, who supported us over the long term in developing the proposal and responding to the review process.

Of course, the University of Osaka will not be discouraged by this selection result. Keeping in mind the changing environment of higher education worldwide, we believe that pursuing the reforms outlined in our proposal is essential to continue cultivating outstanding talent and producing world‑class research, such as that of Professor SAKAGUCHI Shimon, this year’s Nobel Prize laureate in Physiology or Medicine.

While it may take some time to implement the policies outlined in our proposal due to not being selected to receive this fund, we would like to move forward by steadily implementing what we can.

Additionally, we will strive to deepen our cooperative relationships with all relevant ministries, local governments, companies, and other stakeholders to secure support for realizing our vision for the new shape of the university.

From the robust and vibrant Osaka/Kansai region, we will remain committed to driving the realization of a sustainable future society and fulfilling the expectations of stakeholders as a world-leading research university. We sincerely ask for your continued cooperation and support.
