2 days in shizuoka (with mount fuji)

Today we’re going to Shizuoka! Many people think only Kyoto has Japanese gardens, ryokans and matcha But you can experience this just 2 hours from Tokyo (Plus you get to see Mount Fuji!) Mandatory pitstop for coffee and lunch They have a Tokyo Banana Kit Kat soft serve here! A lot of cute souvenirs! A traditional Japanese house with over 300 years of history It has a thatched roof and a water mill around the periphery We are only here to use the cafe since we toured the house last spring Such pretty mugs Sanyo-so was originally built and owned by the eldest son of the Mitsubishi empire As a retreat This century old villa was turned into a ryokan in 1947 The highlight is the enormous Japanese garden that surrounds each room You feel immersed in nature as you walk to your room We’re welcomed with a tea ceremony These are Izu’s tea masters I’m surprised they let me try making matcha! After watching many online tutorials, I had so many questions to ask them She asked me if it tasted good, I said the teacher’s matcha is better It’s time to check-in to our room! This is a large family style villa There are 3 connecting tatami rooms Room 1 is the living room and is the largest of the 3 This is the second room This is our bedroom There’s a terrace that wraps around all 3 rooms Every hotel room also includes a private onsen It feels like a spa with the ReFa hair dryer and shower After a soak, enjoy a cold beer But my favourite part of the room is the private garden A bottle of Shizuoka orange juice and traditional sweets A moment for every lamp in our room Tonight we’re having a kaiseki dinner Sea bream and mushrooms steamed inside an earthenware pot Adding a spritz of sudachi before eating How did they cut this grape to look like a flower? Mandatory konbini run Dessert in a keepsake Snoopy mug! Chocolate mint ice cream KitKat? 🤔 Goodnight! Did we wear it correctly? Breakfast is a work of art Fruits and coffee to end We arrived late yesterday So this morning, we’ll check out the rest of the ryokan The most stunning part of Sanyo-so is the Japanese garden The most wonderful thing is you can also wander inside the garden The former owner also donated
Kiyosumi and Rikugien Gardens in Tokyo, The garden is 10,000 m² with the hotel rooms surrounding it Designed by the famous Kyoto gardener, Jihei Ogawa You don’t have to go all the way to Kyoto to enjoy gardens, a ryokan stay and matcha The general manager wanted to show us the view of Mount Fuji He drove us for 1 minute to get this view! Fuji-san is still bald (aka no snow) Today, we’ll also visit a scenic park where you can see Mount Fuji! The ryokan has a large public hot spring We were allowed to have a tour during the cleaning hours There’s both an indoor bath and an outdoor one I can only imagine how pretty it’ll be in the autumn There’s a small museum displaying the ryokan’s history From the colours of the changing seasons to the emperors who have stayed here The main dining hall where breakfast and dinner are served Traditional gold leaf is used to decorate the mural This is the ryokan’s bar It actually belonged to the Tokyo city mayor It took 1 year to move the building to Izu Nagaoka We are heading out for a short trip to Izu Panoramic Park Which is only 6 minutes away from the hotel! I see the cable car! A sightseeing deck with views of Mount Fuji It’s a 7 minute cable car ride up the mountain We finally see Mount Fuji peeking over the mountain! At the summit there are numerous spots to see Mount Fuji Some are free and some are paid areas The Aqua Ring is an oval-shaped observation deck surrounded by water From the photos, I thought this was actually foot bath but it’s not 😂 The park is also pet friendly! This is an incredible option to see Mount Fuji without the crowds Here is the foot bath and… pizza place! A small towel is 100 yen Many people miss this side of the park: The Forest Walk leads to another observation deck On a calm day you can get Mount Fuji’s reflection in the water A coffee shop where you can order ice cream and Fuji-themed drinks And send yourself a postcard You can access the Water Lounge after ordering a coffee Despite the name, it tastes like hayashi rice 😂 I feel like I’m in a spa with the soothing music and the sound of trickling water I may fall asleep and forget to go back down 😴 During peak hours the hourglass is used to limit the table usage What goes up must come down It’s time for another coffee! A local coffee shop decorated with pictures of the owner and the farmers Galleon is run by a couple who select and roast their own beans You can have toast or small desserts to go with your coffee It’s light and delicious (I forgot to offer Victor a bite 😂) I know we just had a snack, but we’re going to grab an early dinner We found a sushi restaurant near the hotel but it closes at 7:30pm A 1960’s sushi restaurant specialising in rice using red vinegar And a menu with pictures 😂 Omg this is the freshest sashimi I’ve ever had 😂 Found this cute 7-Eleven bento box Some convenience stores sell gachapon like this: This is an old collection of Nissan GT-R “keys” We thought it’s discontinued but we found it here Sam: some people have the best luck… It’s the exact replica key of this car: Heading to breakfast Today is a grilled fish breakfast We chose salmon and mackerel I’m going to miss this view Taking one last stroll in the garden before we check-out Goodbye to this fairytale ryokan There’s a cafe here It only opens on the weekends Today’s Saturday and it’s not open Since the cafe is closed, We will head directly to our next spot which is the bamboo forest We went there a couple years ago, really loved it, So we want to revisit! We’re in Shuzenji Onsen- a hot springs town It’s only a 30 minute drive from Sanyo-so Just off the main road, is this cozy cafe full of vintage charm Omg this is so delicious, we both cleared our plates Shizuoka is also famous for matcha so we have to try some of the desserts The matcha in this terrine is more flavourful than the one we had in Uji Love how this vending machine blends in with the wood wall There’s a few cute shops along the way to the bamboo forest On days that are quiet, this pop-up shop is free for you to take a rest Shuzenji is also known as the “Little Kyoto of Izu” You can do this as a day trip or stay overnight People going up to Shuzenji Temple The Katsura River flows through Shuzenji To get across, there are 5 vermillion bridges that are also nice photo spots This may not be as grand as Arashiyama forest But you can really feel at peace here It only takes 3 minutes to walk through the entire bamboo forest But it’s so charming! On a nice sunny day, People like to lie on this bamboo platform and look up and enjoy the view! During autumn, the leaves turn red to match the bridges I’d like to come again just to see that A hand bath Here’s some photos from the weekend: That’s the mentaiko museum! Cute! A quick stop for coffee at the service stop A vending machine designed by BEAMS Japan! Not sure why though! Cute cups! It’s time to head back to Tokyo! Tokyo Tower is emerging! We hope you enjoyed this little getaway from Tokyo! See you next week!

Thank you Sanyo-so for hosting us this past weekend!

  1. love the bgm at the beginning! so relaxing to watch this as always – the ASMR feels from the natural sounds – LOVE

  2. I'm using a translator,
so I apologize if the words aren't clear.

I came across your videos by chance last year, and I've been enjoying them ever since. ✨

    I'm Japanese,
    but I don't travel domestically,
so there are many places I've never been. 😂

    So through your videos,
    I've learned that there are
so many wonderful places in Japan.

Thank you for always providing such beautiful footage!

Your videos convey such love and respect.

I hope you continue to make
many wonderful memories in Japan! 🩷✨

  3. I love your videos! And I love when I see Sam wearing something she got in previous vlogs 🙂 I based my solo trip to fuji off your video (last year's) and your recommendations never fails! We also have the same taste when it comes to coffee so I know I can trust you lol

  9. This channel is amazing, it is everything. The peace i get from their videos is undeniable. This is my first time that i see other sides of Japan, besides Tokyo, and this is because of them, cause they explore many exclusive attractions of Japan, not just Tokyo that we can see everywhere. i would love to dedicate some weeks of my life just to Japan, i adore it with my heart. so the only thing i can say is just your videos are fascinating. umm and i have a question, are they partners i mean boyfriend girlfriend or husband wife or just simply siblings ?

  10. These videos are soooo good. I was so confused when you started to speak English after a few 😂

  11. 🇯🇵 🗻
    一番リプレイが多かった場面は、お寿司の場面でした🍣
    まだ動いてる魚にビックリしましたね😂
    日本人の私でも旅の参考になります❤

  12. Whenever I see your Shizuoka vlogs, i wonder if you’ve ever been to Taisekiji. It’s the Head Temple of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism, but I believe you can still tour the grounds if you are not a believer, and the temples and scenery are breathtaking. I’ve been going since childhood. It’s about a 20 min drive from Fujinomiya City. Hope you make it there one day! Love your videos ❤

  13. I watched your Fukuoka vlog with Yufuin – liked it so much decided to go to Fukuoka before Hawaiian Air discontinued the direct flights from Hawaii to Fukuoka. My daughter had us go to all the coffee shops you posted. Enjoyed it – Thank you for your vlogs
