TOKYO: Japanese Foreign Minister MOTEGI Toshimitsu and Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the United Arab Emirates’ Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, agreed on Wednesday to continue to utilize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative (CSPI) framework to further strengthen cooperation in various fields.
The CSPI will serve as the foundation for future cooperation between the two countries, including the bilateral Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), which is currently under negotiation, Japan’s Foreign Ministry reported.
Motegi welcomed the diversification of bilateral cooperation between Japan and the UAE beyond the energy sector under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Initiative.
However, he also expressed his gratitude for the UAE’s long-standing stable supply of crude oil to Japan and for the UAE’s generosity regarding the participation of Japanese companies in the upstream development of crude oil.
Minister Jaber expressed his desire to further enhance bilateral relations and conveyed his congratulations on the success of the Osaka-Kansai Expo.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional situations.
