Tourists skip this incredible area in Japan; you shouldn’t π

It is outrageous how many tourists in Japan skip this amazing area on their Japan trip despite being so close to both Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. After traveling here for 3 days, let me tell you all about why Okyama should, no, must be on your next Japan trip and what you can see here. Start your trip in Okyama City, one of the best connected train stations in all of Japan with bullet train connections to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Fukoka. But your trip should actually start with a local train ride to Kibitsu Ginga, a beautiful shrine complex just 20 minutes away from the city with stunning scenery and no tourists. Back in Okyama City, the Kurakuen Gardens are considered among the three best landscape gardens in Japan and offer stunning scenery in a landscape you rarely ever see in Japan like this. Day two then kicks off with an absolute highlight of Okama Prefecture, Kurashki. This small canal town is often called the Venice of Japan, I think, and if it isn’t, it should be with tons of traditional architecture, a canal featuring boat tours, and delicious food. And if you get hungry from walking around, you can replenish your energy with the local delicacy of sauce katsu. Fried pork with a delicious demiglass sauce. Or if you are sweet tooth like me, a parfait featuring famous okama fruits such as grape or peaches. And just 1 hour away from Kurashiki is Kojima, the jeans capital of Japan. Here, Kojima Jean Street is home to over 40 different stores, all selling incredibly highquality denim and other clothing goods, all made in Japan. Honestly, my credit card was sweating profoundly while walking around here. But Kojima is not only home to jeans, but also this incredible hotel. One of the nicest I’ve ever stayed in Japan. It’s hard to believe that the views out on the setto inland sea from the room and the rooftop onsen are not actually the best feature of Wu Blue Resort. But wait until you hear about the food. With a unique [music] kiiseki buffet concept, this all you can eat buffet style dinner honestly rivals some of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to in Japan with incredibly elaborate and delicious items that looked straight out of a Michelin restaurant. Or fresh tempura and steak stations made to order didn’t hurt either. And the same for breakfast. Five people had to pull me away the next day to get me to leave. But I was kind of glad that they managed to because I got to experience one final gem in Okyama Ushimo. A place completely devoid of not only foreign but tourists in general. And boy are they missing out. Not only is the typical Japanese port town scenery stunning, including many stray [music] cats to pet. But once you actually make it to the hills above the city, you can suddenly find yourself in a scenery unlike anywhere in Japan. Oshima Olive Garden is a stunning olive grove with sweeping views out on the setto inland sea. And even on a cloudy day, the scenery [music] was beautiful. But if you come here on a clear day with blue skies, this place really does make you feel like you’re in a stunning Mediterranean seaside town. So whether it is just for a day trip or even for multiple days like me, make sure to add Okama to your next Japan trip before it gets discovered by tourists. But you better be fast
