As a Tokyo native, I frequently get asked by classmates, friends, and even teachers for recommendations on places to eat. So, here is my list of the five best places to go for a meal or a delicious treat in the city!

Tofuya Ukai

This is hands down my favorite restaurant to visit whenever I go back home! They have three different locations in the proximity of Tokyo, but my go-to has always been the one in Shiba Park, right by Tokyo Tower. Unfortunately, the Shiba location is closing in March, but all other Ukai locations and their affiliated branches maintain the same incredible standard.

They serve tofu-based meals that are also available for vegetarians. Key tip: Reservations are a must. While it is on the pricey side, it is worth every penny for its atmosphere and quality!

Honmura-an Ogikubo

This spot is known for its authentic handmade soba noodles and is located in Ogikubo, Tokyo. All of their soba dishes are absolutely incredible, but my favorite item to order is actually their udon noodles. Since I am not the biggest soba fan, their chewy handmade udon is my go-to dish every time I visit

Mont St. Clair

This is where my family always buys our birthday cakes! While their homemade bread is always delicious, their fruit tart is one of the best-tasting tarts I have ever had. I also enjoy just stopping by here to buy one of their seasonal or newest cakes. The moment you step inside, you are welcomed with the smell of fruity cakes and fresh pastry that are so addictive!

Tokyo Sushi Itamae Sushi Ginza Corridor

Although I do not get to visit this place often, Itamae Sushi Ginza Corridor has quickly become one of my top sushi spots. I first dined here in 2023, and I especially enjoyed the tuna and avocado roll that melted in my mouth instantly. Because it is a rather small sushi restaurant, you get an intimate and authentic experience, which I love!

Takano Fruit Parlour Pafério

As the name implies, this spot serves incredible fruit desserts! My personal favorite is the classic strawberry shortcake. Its rich flavor from fresh, sweet strawberries and heavy cream floods your mouth, making it addictive and flavorful. Recently, I have been trying to order something new every visit, and I have found that their seasonal specialties never disappoint!

Even if you can’t fit every location into your itinerary, I promise you will have an unforgettable experience at any of these five spots!
