Nagasaki & Hiroshima: A Deep Dive into Japan’s Dark Past & Hidden Gems
Join us as we explore Nagasaki, Hiroshima and the island of Miyajima… three places that carry history, beauty and a whole lot of unforgettable moments.
Our trip begins in Nagasaki, where we visited the Atomic Bomb Museum and the Hypocenter. Walking through the exhibits and standing at the very place where the bomb exploded left a deep impression on us.
Finding our accommodation turned out to be an adventure of its own… we couldn’t reach our host at all, but a sweet elderly neighbor helped us out. The house itself was incredible: huge rooms, traditional Japanese style and a balcony overlooking the entire bay. A real hidden gem.
We continued exploring Nagasaki’s viewpoints and historical spots before heading to Hiroshima. The city felt more touristy right away and gave us a taste of what the next destinations in Japan might be like. We visited the Peace Museum and the Peace Park, both powerful reminders of the past and symbols of the city’s resilience.
For our final day, we took the ferry to Miyajima Island… famous for its friendly (and sometimes greedy) deer, beautiful nature and spiritual atmosphere. Besides the iconic Itsukushima Shrine and its torii Gates the sea, we walked through the island’s quiet forest paths, checked out its many shrines and Temples. Miyajima’s scenery speaks for itself.
Thanks for travelling with us! See you in the next one!

Miyajima is very beautiful and the landscape looks a bit like Hawaii (or La Réunion, from Manual's past trip). This house in Nagasaki must have cost 200 Euros per night, as it was so big.

Wow, the place looks fantastic! It’s really interesting how there’s a whole culture that works perfectly well without chairs and tables—at least not the way we’re used to. 🙂
And when it comes to the historical stuff… it’s pretty scary what kind of weapons people have created, capable of causing so much destruction in an instant.
Have an amazing time, both of you—enjoy it!
