OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police are searching for a man who fled in his vehicle after a hit-and-run incident in Sakai City resulted in injuries to a female bicyclist on Sunday, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 15)
At around 5:30 p.m., police received a call after the woman riding her bicycle was struck by a white van.
During the crash, the woman fell over and suffered minor injuries, including bruises to her chest and legs, police said.
Afterward, the male driver drove off.
Before the incident, the woman had turned on her bicycle light as she left her home. A young man walking in front of her then called out to her and verbally abused her.
The woman left the scene, but he chased her in his car. As she was cycling away, the white van approached.
After the van traveled alongside her for a while, the male driver opened the passenger-side window and yelled abuse at her. “Remember that!” he shouted.
The vehicle then veered close to her bicycle and made contact, causing her to tumble to the ground. He then sped off at a high speed.
According to police and other sources, the victim did not know the driver.
